Happy Holidays 2010!

It's hard to believe that the holiday season is upon us once again. We hope that this finds all of you happy and well.

It has been an eventful year in our family. As many of you have heard, we moved. It wasn't necessary something that we planned on doing, but in the long run it became essential for the well-being of our family. The good news is that we have increased the amount of space for our family. We went from less that 1000 sq. feet to over 1600 sq. feet. I must say that it is amazing to not have to trip over toys in our living room constantly!

Times are rough and the job search has not been easy for me. No one seems to want someone with basically no experience in the field of medical administration other than schooling. My question is, how is a person supposed to get experience when no one will give you a chance? I do still hold my job at New Horizon Academy, but tough economic times have people not enrolling their children in centers like the one I work in because of the expense. This means that my hours are often unpredictable. Some weeks I will be there for my whole scheduled time and other weeks I am sent home after 3-4 hours of work. Definitely not enough money to help support a family with. Still, I apply for at least 10 jobs a week with not a word in response. It is easy to become frustrated, but I know that I must keep plugging away and I am trying to have faith that things will get better eventually. I just have to believe! I am also trying to hang on to the fact that going to school was a good thing and that I did not waste our money on something that is not getting me anywhere so far. Hopefully someday!

Brad continues to work at the airport for Servisair, though not for much longer. Servisair has lost their fueling contract at most of the airport, so now he will be working for a new company (Swissport) in the new year.He got a letter telling him that his position was being eliminated by Servisair, but we have been told that he will still have a job, so we are hopeful that the benefits will be good and that his pay will remain the same. All we can do is hope and pray I guess.

Sydney began her first year of school in September. She loves Kindergarten! She has made many great friends (there are only 12 children in her class and she loves them all!)She also loves her teacher, Mrs. Haugstad. She played soccer in the fall and absolutely loved that as well. I think she can hardly wait until next fall for soccer to begin again. Its fun to listen to her starting to read books and her handwriting is starting to become really great as well. She is doing well in school and we are so proud of her! She turned 6 on November 12 and she was excited because she got to have 4 celebrations, (one with all of the girls in her class, one with grammy and auntie sara, two at home, one with the Hagers and one with the Cronins.) She is very excited about Christmas and has already written her own letter to Santa!

Christopher turned 3 on April 27. He began preschool in September and absolutely LOVES his teachers Gaye Lynn, Geri, and Jill. (Gaye Lynn and Geri were Sydney's first teachers as well). In addition to preschool, he still goes to speech group 1 day a week with his speech-language pathologist, Chris. He gets to ride the bus on those days and I think that is one of his favorite times of the week! We are currently gearing up for Christopher to be reassessed to see if there are any other issues, as he is having trouble with potty training and socializing with his peers. We have a meeting on December 20 so we will find out the results on that day. We are happy to say that we are so amazed with his talking. He also loves to sing and dance for us. His most recent song has been Frosty the Snowman...see Brad's Facebook page for video footage!

Noah just turned 18 months old at the end of November. He is not saying a whole lot yet, but he does say a few things. We are keeping a close eye on this because of Christopher's problems. His latest feat involves being able to get up and down the stairs without falling! He doesn't walk down them yet, but he does crawl down them. He loves being able to be downstairs in the playroom with his big sister and brother. As you may see in the pictures, Noah is nearly as big as his older brother. Noah weighs slightly more, but is shorter than Chris. He is sleeping well and growing a great personality.

We look forward to sharing more news with you all next year. Hopefully there will be a lot of good things to say. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone! We wish the best for each and every one of you.

With love,

Stacey, Brad, Sydney, Christopher, and Noah

Hello!

Christopher began preschool this week! It is so hard to believe that he is old enough to be going to school already. Today was his second day. He was all smiles and in such a great mood when I got home from work today, that is so nice to see! He is continuing to have speech therapy as well. He starts his fall speech group tomorrow and he will be riding the bus to and from school. Hopefully, he will do ok with that. I know that Brad mentioned that he was a little nervous about it, but with Sydney leaving for school at 5 minutes to 12 it would be hard for Brad to make it to Christopher's school to pick him up.

Sydney is still loving Kindergarten. She loves the bus and is sad on Tuesdays and Thursdays because she doesn't ride the bus to school on those day because those are the days that Christopher goes to preschool. Her pick up time is 5 minutes before Christopher gets out of preschool and it would be impossible for Brad to get clear across town with Sydney in time. She has been pretty tired though. She always tells me it is because she doesn't get a nap anymore. The funny thing is that she rarely took a nap in the past few years! :-)

Noah has started talking a little bit. He loves to say mom-mom and da-da. He is in the tantrum stage when something isn't going his way right now and that is pretty tough. We know that he understands us though because when we say what we think he wants he usually stops crying, so in his own way he is communicating with us!

Brad is excited to be going to his first Twins game at Target field. He and Sydney will be going tomorrow night. I guess that it is Sydney's school (Poplar Bridge) night at the Twins game. I wish I could go too, but will have to wait for another time. I am just really glad that he is able to go, he's been wanting to all summer long.

I just finished up with my last finals. I am so excited! Graduation is a week from Saturday. I have been job hunting and had an interview. It went so well and I was actually offered a job, but the pay was the same as what I was currently making. The hours were more, but I would have had to pay for child care for the three kids, so it wouldn't have balanced out. We may have to keep things the way they are until Christopher and Sydney are both in school full time, but we will see how things work out.

Until next time...

Sydney's 1st Day of School

Happy Fall!

It has been a pretty busy week for us here in the Maller household. Yesterday, Sydney started Kindergarten. She is in half day Kindergarten in the afternoons at Poplar Bridge Elementary School. So far she loves it. She is even pretty excited because she gets to ride the bus to and from school! :-)

Saturday mornings are soccer time for Sydney. She plays on the BAA Lions team. She has 6 other teammates and she loves it. Her coach is awesome with the kids and the best part is that one of her old preschool classmates is on her team! She has blocked several goals when having the opportunity to play goalie. We sure are proud of her.

Christopher will start preschool next Tuesday morning. Daddy will go with him while Sydney and Noah will go to child care at the preschool for the time that Christopher is in class. He is pretty excited and will have the same teacher that Sydney had her first year of preschool. He already talks all about teacher Gaye Lynn! He also will continue his speech group on Friday mornings with teacher Chris and is very excited about that!

Noah is 15 months now. He now weighs as much as his brother, but is slightly shorter. He has such a cute personality and is getting to be so much fun. He loves being with his brother and sister. He is starting to dance and clap a lot! Sometimes he enjoys books. He basically likes anything that his brother and sister have.

Brad and I have been keeping busy with work. Brad is trying to figure out when he wants to start taking college classes and I am getting ready for graduation! I graduate on September 25, but class is done for me on the 17th! :-) I am really looking forward to the break.

I had a job interview and was actually offered a job yesterday, but I had to turn it down because I would end up making less than I do now when you factor in the child care expenses. I was kind of bummed, I thought school would help to make things better, but so far it is not looking that way. Maybe after Sydney and Christopher get into school all day. A few years down the road I know, but day care is SO expensive!

I have included pictures from Sydney's 1st day of school, as well as various photos from over the summer including our camping trip to Big Sandy! Happy Fall.

Family Update Spring 2010

Hi all!

Sorry that it has been so long since I have posted on here. Life has been a little crazy to date! I don't even know where to begin...so I guess I will start with the kids.

Sydney's school year is winding down. She will really miss school over the summer, which will make her all the more anxious for Kindergarten in the fall. We are hoping to get her in to a summer soccer program or swimming lessons, we will have to see what we can find. It has been so much fun to watch her grow and change throughout this year.

Noah is almost 1. He will reach that milestone on May 26. I can hardly believe that my baby has grown that fast. He has such a personality now. He talks up a storm too! He is a great eater and nearly outweighs his older brother. Am not sure of his official weight right now, but Christopher weighs 28 pounds. Last time we had Noah in (3 months ago) he weighed 25 lbs, 7 ounces. He has been walking around the furniture...and his newest discoveries include climbing into Christopher's bed and climbing into the dresser drawers as well as the bathtub.

Christopher turned 3 on April 27. We celebrated his birthday as a family by spending part of the day at the Mall of America. We went to Nickelodeon Universe, Bubba Gump, and Build a Bear Workshop. Christopher built himself a dragon there which he named Woody (after his favorite movie, Toy Story 2). He loves Woody and Buzz! That night we had a Super Why birthday cake from Cub and had our neighbors over for cake and ice cream. He had his well check the next day and we had him test for nut allergies. We found out that he is allergic to peanuts and he now carries an EPI-Pen. He was also diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder (otherwise known as sensory processing disorder). It is nothing serious, he just has some sensory issues, which have also contributed to the talking. Between speech therapy and eventually occupational therapy hopefully he will get the help that he needs to live a normal, comfortable life. Fortunately, his Auntie Sara is an occupational therapist so she is helping us to learn more about this disorder and what we can do for him. I took him for an assessment with an occupational therapist last week, but unfortunately our insurance does not cover services for sensory integration, so we will have to find another way to get him therapy. We are looking in to our options.

The next month or so is going to be pretty busy for us...We have my birthday, our anniversary, Noah's birthday, the boys' birthday party, and Brad's birthday all back to back!

School is starting to wind down for me. I am in my second to last quarter with graduation in September. I can hardly wait!!

There is lots more news to share...but I am on a time crunch so I will have to share with you another time. Until next time.

Happy Spring!

Love,
The Mallers

Long Time, No Post!

Hi all!

Happy New Year! Where to begin? Things have been busy here in Minnesota. Life with three kids is different than we ever expected it to be, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

First of all, thank you Minnesota Vikings for finally making a football fan out of me! It has taken a long time, but I can honestly say that I love to watch it now. Although last night's game was nearly a heart stopper. Despite the loss, I will keep rooting for the purple and gold. There is always hope next year!

Second of all, take a look at the new photos that I have posted. I tried to post some from the last few months. The kids have all changed a lot, especially Noah!

Brad is working hard. In fact, he has probably only had 4 days off total since Christmas. He has been working A LOT of overtime. It helps with the finances, but cuts in to our family time, which is very hard. Oh, the sacrifices we have to make! Despite the fact that he is pretty tired, he keeps plugging away trying to make a better life for our family and who could ask for more? I personally think that he is the world's greatest husband and father! My hat is off to you, sweetie!

Sydney is keeping busy with preschool. She loves to tell us about her day after we pick her up from school and she is forever asking when is my next school day. A few weeks ago her class went to the Bell Museum and Sydney was excited to have the chance to take Daddy with her on a field trip. She is very good with both of her brothers, especially Noah as she and Christopher tend to fight over things! Her newest interest has been playing the Wii, which our family got as a joint gift for Christmas. We have also been reading a lot of chapter books together. We read three books from the Fudge series by Judy Blume, a Junie B. Jones book (which she loved) and we are now reading Beezus and Ramona, by Beverly Cleary.

Christopher is becoming a talking machine! He talks, he sings, he loves to play. He also loves to climb. He is our little daredevil. Last week, he snuck down in to the basement. His latest interests are playing hide and seek with Sydney, playing with his new toys from Christmas, playing in the snow, computer games, and dancing to the Wii characters..he hasn't quite mastered his game playing skills yet. He is also loving his "school". He has speech group 1 day a week and it has really started to make an improvement! Now if we could just get him to eat more....

Noah is on the move. He finally started to sit up on his own, though he is still pretty tipsy at times. He is rolling all over the place and is even scooting. He is chewing on everything, but still only has two teeth. He has tried some table foods, and loves pretty much all of the baby foods that he has tried. It is hard to believe that he is already 8 months old!

I have been keeping myself busy between work, school, and home. I have three classes this quarter, so things aren't quite as hard, though I do wish that I had sometime on occasion for my hobbies. I haven't even started Noah's scrapbook yet and that makes me sad. Household chores and homework and caring for the kids seem to be all I have time for these days! I was fortunate to have an overnight with my mom and sister for some much needed girl time. It was a refresher and a chance to sleep in!! :)

Well, until next time.....
